Ahmad Farhan Ruslan had phoned his family regularly during his stint in Sabah
"He told me not to worry, that nothing out of the ordinary would happen to him," she said when met at her home in Desa Darulnaim here yesterday.
Roslawati said her son would phone home regularly to talk to her about his situation in Lahad Datu.
"When I saw two military men at the front gate of my house today about 4pm, I was overcome with anxiety.
"Then they broke the bad news. I was shocked to learn about his death," Roslawati said.
Ahmad Farhan would be laid to rest at the Pasir Hor cemetery today.
Meanwhile, the Ahmad Farhan's grandfather, Ghani Mohamad, 67, said the family accepted the death as fate.
"For us, God loves him more," he said.
